About this blog
[two_third]This is a blog principally – but not exclusively – about Britain. It’s written from an outsider’s perspective – although I was born and lived my entire childhood in England and went to university in Scotland, I’ve not lived in Britain for nearly a decade (having moved to Brussels in 2002).
It’s a blog about anything and everything – it focuses mainly on politics and current events – and the way in which we’re told about them. It will also look at sport, entertainment, and anything else that grabs my interest (and hopefully yours).
It may be infrequent, irregular, and occasionally incoherent. I take the approach of Edward de Bono: ‘If you never change your mind, why have one?’
However, there are some fixed points to my political views: I am a democratic socialist, an internationalist, and a supporter of the EU (but not an uncritical one). And unlike too many bloggers, and too much of the media (in America, and increasingly in Britain), I don’t think people of the opposite views are evil – just misguided.
Finally, a small point of clarification: I currently work as a consultant for Burson-Marsteller, a public affairs and communications agency, in Brussels. However, the views expressed on this blog are entirely my own.
If I write something that agrees with and/or expresses the views of my employer or a client, then that is coincidence, not conspiracy.
